Retail Phishing Blitz: Thousands of Fake Sites Impersonate Big Brands

Dave Bittner of CyberWire Intel Briefing discusses a retail phishing blitz that’s impacted many online shoppers. According to Bittner, researchers at Silent Push uncovered a large-scale phishing campaign using thousands of fake retail websites to impersonate brands like Apple, PayPal, Nordstrom, Hermes, and Michael Kors. These fraudulent sites, first flagged in Mexico, target English and Spanish speakers globally. While some mimic real e-commerce platforms with scraped product listings and even Google Pay widgets, others are crudely designed. Victims enter credit card data believing they are making legitimate purchases, but no products are ever shipped. Many of the phishing domains remain active despite takedown efforts, underlining the growing persistence of retail-themed scams.
